About Slice of Life

I love to make pie. Making pie is such a creative process, deciding which filling to try and thinking about how to decorate the crust. I also love to talk to people about their favorite pie. Talking about pie is a great way to get to know something unique about a person. Just ask a stranger about their favorite pie, you will quickly become friends.

Earlier this year, I was having such a conversation with a friend of mine. She shared with me great memories of her mom. Then she said, “if you collected these pie recipes, I would buy that.”

The pie storybook idea was born.

I asked everyone I knew for their favorite pie recipe, story or memory, and a picture, and created a collection of amazing recipes and their stories for sale in the Cedar Valley area. But, what to do with the money raised by selling the books?

I followed the examples of two friends who are using their God-given strengths to raise money for a cause. But which causes? Each person was given the opportunity to nominate an organization when submitting their pie story, and from those nominated, several organizations were selected.

When a donation is made to acquire the book, the donor will select the organizations that will receive their contribution. This pie blog was started so we could continue sharing our pie stories and recipes. So please look around and share your experiences!

  2. What Pie Did I Try?

    Hi Everyone!

How fun was the Pie Party? Thank you, Sue, for such a wonderful idea and a great reason to celebrate. At the party on Tuesday night I tried a plain-looking pie with a graham cracker crust and vanilla cream filling. It was not labeled. Do you think it is the Graham Cracker Cream Pie from page 87? It was delish!

  3. Jessie,
It was the marshmellow cream pie on page 98. It was my dad’s favorite and the page is called Grandpa Gus’s Favorite Marshmellow Pie.

  4. Thank you Laura!

I’m very surprised to hear that it was a marshmallow pie. It tasted more “vanilla-ey” to me, but it is so wonderful! Everyone should try this pie!
